Join your fellow residents at Hemingbough at 5:30 PM on November 29 to give your input into the future of the Parish. You will gather at tables of 10 people and play a game designed to allow residents to easily show their hopes and desires for the future.
This game uses a map to represent the board and icons representing development options that are used as game pieces. The map will cover the entire parish focusing on parish-wide issues such as land use and transportation, preservation areas and the distribution housing and potential jobs. It will consider developable areas and natural systems that cut across parish boundaries, such as roadways, riparian corridors, hills and hollows.
Each group will apply desired game pieces which represent types of development such as housing, mixed-use, office, park, etc. to the opportunity sites. Moving game pieces around, the groups can explore possibilities, try new ideas and eventually come to a consensus. The parish land use choices will be illustrated with real-world examples, so that participants will understand the character of the development implied, and the affect it could have on their community.
The workshop will challenge participants with the task of deciding where new growth should and should not occur within the parish, the general form that new growth should take, and the type of transportation system needed to serve it, as well as highlighting opportunity areas for change. Participants will grapple with the issues and trade-offs related to placing growth in different locations, given environmental, preservation, institutional, and infrastructure constraints. At the end of the planning exercise, a representative from each group will present his/her group's findings, and common themes will become evident.
This is a fun community event, and we need your participation and input!
