Greetings!
Today's date is one we will never forget. As the anniversary of that devastating event seven years ago when the United States was terrorized and thousands of lives were lost, we must pause in our hurricane recovery to remember that tragic day. I remember that day so well as I am sure many still do.
One week after the event I was in Washington DC and drove by the Pentagon. People drove close to the site and parked and walked to the grassy area by the interstate and just sat and stared. You . . .
could not help but almost stop on the highway to see where the airplane crashed. It was very moving to see the extremely large American Flag that was placed against the wall.
I also visited the site where the "Twin Towers" once stood a year later. The reverence and peacefulness surrounded the fenced area of "ground zero". Those who were also visiting the site only spoke in a silent whisper if at all. Some shed tears while others just stared at a large hole that emptiness was felt by just the site alone and there too, an extremely large American flag was hung. The thought of such an invasion of the country in which we live still angers us all and has caused Americans to proceed with extreme caution.
As you drive about and see the flags at half staff, remember those who lost their lives at this tragic event in American history.
An Irish proverb was quoted today at a memorial service by Bloomberg- "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal."
As a closing note, stay safe and pray that "Ike" does not come to West Feliciana Parish.

Happy New Year!!
It has been my pleasure to serve the members and board of the Greater St. Francisville Chamber of Commerce as your President, over the last year and a half. Our Past President, Hamilton Willis, laid the groundwork, recognized the needed direction and rapidly organized the chamber into a valuable resource for our members.
With the hard work of our board and an increased level of cooperation throughout the parish, many significant events occurred during my tenure. The Chamber hosted Political Forums, After-hour functions, and Ribbon Cuttings. We continue to enhance the newsletter and website on a regular basis. Through the Swing for Scholarship Golf Outing, we have provided scholarships to numerous students from our area. Most recently, we hosted the Discovery Trip to Madison to learn from their challenges and successes. The Comprehensive Plan has the potential to be the vehicle that will provide the necessary direction and focus for our local leaders. It is important that we continue to ensure that our leaders act on the plan and begin to implement its recommendations. I encourage our President Elect, Mike Smith, and the board to work closely with our officials towards this endeavor. |
